Policy on Harassment, Bullying, and Hazing

Kiski maintains an environment in which everyone is respected, accepted, and valued. Accordingly, harassment of an individual or group on the basis of race, ethnic origin, religious affiliation, gender, or sexual orientation will not be tolerated. Harassment includes acts of verbal, written, or physical abuse, as well as other equally damaging forms such as epithets or stereotyped remarks.

As well, Kiski will not tolerate bullying or any form of hazing. Bullying is a physical, verbal, or psychological action or threat directed against a student by one or more other students in order to cause fear, distress, or harm. This includes cyber-bullying which is mistreatment perpetrated through the use of technology. Hazing is any action or situation created by a group to intentionally produce mental or physical discomfort, embarrassment, or ridicule among those wishing to join the group.

A student who believes he has experienced any form of harassment, bullying, or hazing should speak to any faculty or staff member who will report the incident to one of the Associate Heads of School immediately. The student may also report the incident using the email address [email protected]. The Associate Head of School’s Office will investigate the charges and take appropriate action which may include referral to the Honor and Discipline Council (HDC).

Depending on the circumstances and severity of the offense, the response may range from reprimand or counseling up to and including dismissal from school. A student who directs any form of retaliation toward someone making such a complaint will be subject to strict disciplinary sanctions including the possibility of expulsion.
