Kiski Legends Make History at the 2025 U20 World Lacrosse Championship
August 26, 2025
Kiski athletes once again proved their place among the world’s best as five members of the Kiski family represented their countries at the 2025 Men’s U20 World Lacrosse Championship in Jeju, South Korea. Four alumni helped Team Canada capture its first-ever gold medal at this level, while one current student made history with Team Jamaica as the program earned its best international finish.
Canada Captures Gold
Team Canada delivered a historic 6–5 victory over the United States in the championship game, breaking a nine-tournament run of U.S. dominance at the U20 level. Canada’s win came in dramatic fashion, sealed by a last-second save from goalkeeper Grayson Manning. The Canadians controlled the pace of play, held the U.S. scoreless for nearly 29 minutes, and converted their chances with precision.
Among those who raised the gold medal for Canada were four Kiski Legends:
David Peterkin ’22 (Hobart)
Wyatt Wiggins ’23 (Harvard)
Zach Tucker ’23 (RMU)
Chris Rathwell ’24 (Lehigh)
Their presence on the roster was more than symbolic. Each played a part in a carefully executed Canadian game plan that emphasized discipline, chemistry, and resilience. The victory not only brought Canada its first title but also placed Kiski alumni at the heart of an unforgettable international moment.
Jamaica’s Breakthrough Performance
Kiski also celebrated the achievement of Owen Bordin-Pusey ’26, a current student who represented Team Jamaica. Jamaica finished in 8th place, the nation’s best-ever result in the U20 World Championship. For Owen, competing on the world stage while still a student at Kiski was a remarkable personal milestone, and his journey highlights the increasingly global nature of the sport.
A Defining Tournament
The 2025 Men’s U20 World Lacrosse Championship was a landmark event for the game. Over ten days, 57 matches showcased the skill and passion of 20 nations. Puerto Rico, Jamaica, Ireland, and Mexico all recorded their best finishes, underscoring the expanding reach of lacrosse worldwide. Canada’s historic gold medal and Jamaica’s breakthrough run reflect the sport’s momentum as it moves toward inclusion in the 2028 Olympic Games.
Kiski Pride on the World Stage
From the playing fields of Saltsburg to the international spotlight of Jeju Island, these five young men carried with them the lessons, discipline, and determination they first sharpened at Kiski. Their success represents more than medals and standings. It is a testament to the lifelong impact of a Kiski education and the school’s role in developing leaders who excel at the highest levels.
Congratulations to David, Wyatt, Zach, Chris, and Owen. Your accomplishments have made history for your countries, and they have made your Kiski family proud.
